A God-breathed Life

Cause and effect.

God speaks and the result is life.

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. {Genesis 2:7}

It wasn’t until God’s breath poured into that intricately formed dust, that man became a living soul.

His breath had the power to bring life.

Hebrews 4:12 says the Word of God is LIVING and active.

Why is that?

Because it is God-breathed.

Sitting upon our shelves, stored within hearts, and quoted in Sunday school’s all around the world: Words of LIFE that contain the very breath of God.

Just think about it for a minute.

We have received these precious God-breathed promises.

Our lives are built upon the Words God has breathed.

Do our lives look like they have been breathed into by God's very own breath?

When we open the scripture, do we expect for God's living Word to resonate and pierce our hearts like it was the first time we read it?

Has the unyielded yearning to pursue the presence of God become a thing of the past?

In our prayer lives, is there life in our prayer closet or has it become a drudgery to seek?

I believe we are called to live lives filled and overflowing with the breath of God.

I believe our prayer lives are not supposed to be boring and toilsome.

Why would any think that when Jesus Himself said in Matthew 11, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

When we come to Jesus, we find a lightness in Him.

I'm taking a look in my own life, asking the Lord to search my heart and point out the places where I have not allowed His life to flow freely.

A God-breathed life is not something we work towards friend, it's a gift we just receive.

In thinking of all this, I think the way we can be bogged down in a life-less, harsh, pressure-filled life is by many distractions.

Maybe we look at other places to set our gaze on, and a depletion occurs.

I think we can even get distracted in prayer, with our checklists and our prayer to-do lists.

Instead of trying to make our prayer life look like somebody else's, I believe God has called us each to love Him uniquely. He just wants us to pour our love on Him. Just come to Him to drink Him in.  I believe that's where life is. What is it that GOD has spoken to you to pray over? What assignments? Pray over that. You'll see that life flows out of those assignments, and it's not harsh or pressing or hard. But full of ease, because the words He spoke to you contain His life-giving breath.

Our lives are meant to be refreshing, living waters for all who are around us. I believe there is a safety and warmth that we carry because our lives contain the very breath of God.

May we all live God-breathed lives fully, where others are drawn to the MERCY and KINDNESS of God which unhindered flows.
