We are Many Members, but One Body (pt 1)

1 Corinthians 12:14
For in fact the body is not one member but many.

The GREATEST GREATEST GREATEST Joy in my life is to be in the Family of God.

To have God as my Father.

To have Jesus as my Lord.

And to be known as part of this truly awesome company called “The Church”.

What a Great honor. To be known as a member of the Body of Christ.

It’s an honor I delight in, It’s an honor I don’t take lightly.

Paul continually wrote in the New Testament: “This I write concerning Christ and the Church.”

Christ and the Church – what a MIGHTY combination.

Over the past few weeks, a greater adoration for the Church has stirred in my heart.

I think it’s because I’ve seen the action that has taken place to help people in need.

On March 11, the world received news of a devastating earthquake followed by a major tsunami in the country of Japan.

Right away, we saw the Church begin to move with compassion and act in synchronization as one body. In Unity.

Nobody cared if the person next to them was a Baptist, or a Methodist, or a Pentecostal…All that mattered was they loved Jesus and they loved the People and there was a job to get done.

We have a job to do. And we were created for such a time as this to do that job.

Our job:

Love God. Love People.

If we keep that motto fresh and always on the forefront of our hearts and our actions, we as a Body will not get out of line with the Head.

Ephesians 5:27 says the Lord Jesus is coming back for a GLORIOUS church. Without spot or wrinkle.

Umblemished.

As I think on what the Church body is doing as a whole, it is very encouraging.

We are, day by day, transforming into the image of Ephesians 5:27: becoming  the church without spot or wrinkle.

But we’re not there yet.

We can’t overlook the spots that have yet to be washed, or the wrinkles that have yet to be ironed out.

The things that are overlooked are the things that go unchanged.

And it is the heart of every true Believer to be constantly changing to look more and more like Jesus.

I am checking my life…asking God to search my heart…asking Him to show me how to be an effective member of His Body. Asking Him, What spots do I need to let the Word wash away?

When I discover spots or wrinkles that need adjustments in my own life, I love to thank Jesus for His Blood and Grace for where I’ve messed up.

His Grace abounds far over sin and our mistakes.

Thank you Jesus.

God the Father, despite all the mistakes He knew we would make, still found it fit to set EVERY ONE of us {yes, you!} in His Body where it pleased Him.

So there’s a place for every person in the Body.

A specific place.

Find out where He has placed you.

If you don’t know where that is, Ask Him. He’ll lead you. Then start walking in it.

1 Corinthians 12:27 says “Now you are the body of Christ AND members individually”

{emphasis on the “AND” added by jenny}

It’s one thing to know how to work IN the Body.

It’s another thing to know how to work AS a Body.

As the next few weeks unfold, I am going to do a series of posts on walking not only IN the Body, but walking AS the Body of Christ.I could not fit it all into one post...You'd be reading this post until next month!

We’ll locate where we need to let the Word iron out wrinkles like Pride, Selfishness, Self-abuse, and isolation.

Then We'll let the Word change us into that picture.

So stay with me, we’re going somewhere :)

I believe  there will a greater excitement and stirring of what we’re called to walk in. A renewed expectancy and fervor to be that Glorious Church.

We’ll see the complete, unhindered work of the Body of Christ:

Hands that move at the impulse of the Love of God

Feet that are swift to spread the Gospel of Christ.

The Lord has turned the direction of my heart to lift up the church in prayer as a whole. For all the things the Body of Christ is doing in the earth.

We are ALL in this together.

Friends, We’re getting there.

We are closer today than we were yesterday.

We are closer than we have ever been to becoming that Glorious Church.

You are loved-

jenny
